There's Nothing Like a Wedding

This weekend DH was a groomsman in a co-worker's wedding. Let me just say that after 11 years of marriage and the day to day with three kids, seven and under, that there is nothing like a wedding to remind you of the important things in life.

This particular wedding was so similar to our own, being a Czech-Catholic wedding too. At every turn, there was a memory, things I hadn't thought about in years! They even had the same readings we used and two of the same songs.

We took the girls with us although we decided the P-man was too young to go, especially with Daddy at the altar and not helping Mommy. It was so much fun to get to introduce the girls to some of the Czech traditions. When I was little, I had cousins getting married all the time so these were normal things to me but as I am an only child and my kids have no cousins, my girls have never experienced these things. The Czech food was fabulous, I taught the Princess to polka, the wedding march was so fun and the girls did so well even though we got separated. Watching them dance around with other kids they didn't even know brought back so many memories of my childhood. Before the wedding, I took them to see the little house where my West Grandma lived and to the cemetary to say prayers at her grave. That was a sad spot in the day because she would have loved my kids! But, I know she looks down on us and laughs her head off all the time!

So, what did I take away from the day? DH and I are so lucky to still love each other so much after all this time. Our children are truly blessings that we prayed for and were answered. It is easy to forget that in the hustle and bustle of every day life. And, it is a good thing to sometimes go back to your beginnings whether it is in your marriage or in where you are in your life. You just might gain a new perspective from remembering an old one.
